The London Vegetable Garden: a 'real' gardening blog for everyone...

Back in 2009, I started planting a few vegetable seeds in containers and pots on the balcony of my London flat. What started out as a bit of fun soon turned into a full-grown project, as I attempted to see just how much could be grown in the confines of a small, urban space.

As I chronicled the London Vegetable Garden's urban odyssey, I quickly discovered that there were loads of like-minded people just like me; eager to get started on their own urban gardening adventures, but not knowing where to start: and the community was born.

Unlike so many gardening blogs out there, this blog is authentic. I've learnt a great deal growing vegetables on city balconies, but I'm no expert. I don't just write about my successes; I document my mistakes too. Gardening is not an elitist pastime where people 'compete' to outdo each other and win prizes. It's a living, breathing passion that too many people are dissuaded from due to lack of space, poor council provision and bureaucratic 'waiting lists'.

Since I started this blog 4 years ago, I have turned my hand to allotment vegetable gardening and am now experimenting in my own garden, in a Peak District cottage. Follow the London Vegetable Garden and you'll be guaranteed an entertaining, 'real' read, the chance to watch my progress and an insight into relevant social issues related to gardening, allotments, food produce and growing your own.
